Theme
Halloween!

What do I win?
A gift of your choice from Steam or Mojang to the value of $60

When is it due?
Builds must be completed by 11:59PM EST October 31th

Where do I make it?
Your choice - either in Classic or Retail

Who can join?
Any registered member! (Builder+)

Yes, it is yet another building contest!
Halloween is coming and we are approaching our 3rd anniversary of Insomniac Servers. So once again we shall be having a Halloween themed contest because there are lots of things that can be made for it.

Builds must be completed in time for Halloween. A winner will be picked on the evening of Friday October 31st. Darthjahona will be the only judge so that means that everyone can enter, no matter how high a rank you are. (For now, the classic server maps are restricted to EpicBuilder to stop the noobs going there and building completely random stuff like hotels!)

People can build in either Classic or Retail.

-On Classic please build on your own map and screen shot your entry.

-On Creative (retail) there will be a special map and warp.  Use warp Halloween2014 or use the Halloween Buildoff Board at /spawn. The map is a flat map so pick a free spot somewhere and build there.  Please leave room between other players builds.

When your done with your build put a screenshot of it and the coordinates in this post to show you entered.

Conditions
- You must build alone.

- Builds must be created new. Previous builds cannot be used as entries.

- Builds should not be copied from things that other people made, like this post was copied from darthjahona who copied it from Bren4q.

- Any messing around or modifying other people's builds is grounds for disqualification and- as is tradition- a dutch rub.

- Command blocks ARE allowed in builds on the creative server.  Ask any moderator to make it for you, but you must supply the command.  (The moderator will make the block, but you have to tell the moderator what to put in it!) If no moderators are availiable, PM us on the forums.

Any questions, just ask.
Best of luck!

What if I took an idea or concept from an anime? Will I get disqualified for it?

No as long as it's still has some originality to it.

Okay. Are we allowed to use texture packs?
Sorry for the double post.

Assuming that the rules are basically the same as the 2013 Christmas buildoff, Texture packs are legal as long as you add it to your submission post as well as where to aquire it.

Here's a link for the texture pack used:http://www.planetminecraft.com/texture_pack/skyrim-hd-texture-pack-by-ghostmod/

Easiest way to get to my build is to use /warp halloween2014 turn right (90 degrees) then go straight West for a bit (decrease your x coordinate value).

Thanks for viewing! Happy Halloween!

EDIT: Now that creative's back up;

At 890x 4y -84z, there is a tree, a tree of Halloween! A tree which will transport you to a magical town from whence this joyous holiday originates!
(http://i.imgur.com/Z10xHlZ.png)
The town has a lot of interactive features to explore, including the laboratory of Dr. Frankenbean, the ghoul school, a grave-robber minigame, and much much more!

(Note: This build is meant to be viewed at night, so please do so. Also, if "Jack O' Lantern" isn't in the pumpkin patch, it means that some of the mobs have been removed and may require replacement.)

Map is back up for those that would like to get back on.

I've viewed the entries and honestly having a hard time choosing.
I've got three people in mind.  Y'all didn't make it easy this time.

Just on a pure building level standpoint Kesteve's Headless Horseman would win.  If I take into account all of the flexibility of Minecraft then the little things Butlerbandit did took the cake.  While his build wasn't as aesthetically pleasing as Kesteve's, I thought all of his work with redstone made up for it.  The fun things that were set up in most of the buildings and the interactions had me looking forward to what would happen next.

So with all that being said my pick for this Halloween build off is.

1st) Butlerbandit
2nd) Kesteve
3rd) Emperor_Quimby

Butler get in contact with me on how to redeem your prize.
Kesteve and Emperor Quimby please check your inbox for your runner up prize.

Also would y'all be interested in seeing more frequent build offs next year?  I can continue to provide the winning prize.

As I said before the start and now at the ending, I will not claim my prize.

Keep it Darth, maybe make the price bigger next year then :D

Theme Thanksgiving.
As a non-USA/Canadian citizen who hasn't witnessed a Thanksgiving celebration, other than a turkey what things or activities are normally associated with it?

Sorry didn't put much thought into the theme.

We can change it to something more universally known.

Should the next build off be doors or bells?

Perhaps the bells are for a Christmas theme? The festive season will be upon us soon.

it was a "the wizard of oz" reference

But if I can chose I team, it would be Landscapes

I need landscapes to my project, so if we could make a building contest for that, it would be great.
It could be: Mountain landscape, swamp landscape, forest landscape, sand landscape, demon landscape or floating landscape!
Title: Re: Halloween Buildoff 2014

First off, congrats on your win Buttler!

Second, doing more builds in the future would be fairly enjoyable. If we need a topic for one before Christams, how about:

*  Colors of Fall
*  Fall (in general)
*  Winter
*  Thanksgiving (I'd also vote for it despite it being an American holiday. Bren, you could build a food display, and family gathering, or go back to the history and build events leading up to the first thanksgiving in America. This could be the ship taking the pilgrims, the old pilgrim town, a landscape with corn, or the first thanksgiving banquet.)

Post by: Butlerbandit on November 06, 2014, 03:46:13 PM
@Kesteve: Thanks!

If we need a theme, we could always just do "Harvest Festival", since Thanksgiving is really just America's version of an old world tradition.

Two themes in one! Landscapes and Thanks-giving.
- A landscape with corn
- A beach full of ships landing with pilgrims
- A mountain of turkeys

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Ok New Contest.  I'll make a new map and warp later today.  Runs until November 30th.  Prize will be a collection of indie games to be redeemed on Steam.

Theme will be (American) Thanksgiving but with a landscape.

I'll type more info on a new post later.
