Welcome to the Insomniac weekly Saturday night build off challenge!
Each Saturday night, depending on the number of participants, we will be hosting a ONE HOUR build off! The challenge is to build to a theme voted upon by the participants! On the creative server - ip: is1.is-lost.org
WARP - /warp buildoff - Submit ideas below the warp spawn and browse previous games! We have done solo and team builds!
Time - 8:00pm CST (However can vary depending on the number of participants and when they show up! Can start earlier or later. Best to show up EARLY!)
Judged by whoever is around willing to judge... I guess...
No real prizes, but its just a fun time and very uncompetitive. Just come around and laugh and joke and build something great!

Congrats to tonights winners! Library build theme! Was tough, the results were all great! Great job guys.
Suggestion Juw:
Add names under players who win
Add the build so it can be seen as well
Put the theme somewhere in the picture as well.
Also, I won't be able to participate in the next build-off. I'll be in St. Louis. Jeers, I mean, cheers.
Alright guys, don't forget to swing by tonight for another build off! We may get started a bit later than usual as a few players showed up mid game last week.
Good luck!
Home on time, but lost my Internet... Some people at school are hosting a lan party and are hogging the net...

Another Buildoff over! This weekend had a great theme!
CANDY LAND

The Winners! Everyone really turned out some fantastic builds in this Team build-off! Even Vance, who unfortunately had to build alone.
1st Place
(http://i.imgur.com/ZIoU9DG.jpg)
Attack of the Giant Peep at the villager sanctuary of cake! This build featured a land made of candy that utalized every inch of plot space! The build flowed nicely and the detail was everywhere! On top of that there were some delicious looking chocolate villagers being chased by the PEEP! And one is even being devoured by the peep's squish marshmallowiness!!!
2nd Place

Ice Cream Overload Island! A massive Ice Cream mountain on a chocolate island full of naturally grown cookies, lollies, and special treats! All surrounded by an ocean of delicious cold milk to wash it all down!
3rd Place

The Evil House of super crazy frostingness! Oh the frosting on this completely eatable house! But what secrets lie deep in the basements? Perhaps an evil witch who lures children in to...
All the entries were great again this weekend during our 1hr build off! We had 4 teams of 2 and one solo. Nice work to all and we look forward to next week's competition!
Build offs have been consistent and we are continually developing and improving its systems! Be sure to swing by and check it out and build with us on Saturdays!
Suggestion:
Let us pick what type of ground we want in our plot before the game starts as it usually takes up most of the building time replacing it with your own mouse.

maybe not so much that we get to pick, but some instances may require drastic terrain modification and would benefit from a different plot style at the beginning. (ie: for a ship building competition, make the plots longer and thinner, with water instead of dirt.)
Actually, I like Vance's idea. For example, if we were building a ship it would save a hell of alot of time to just have the floor be filled with water or sand to start. It would save time as replacing a floor isn't quite so much building, but certainly is a time waster.
i suggested that right after the candyland one :o
I'd also like to just say that this week I'd like to try something new. There has been so many different opinions all over the place regarding how we set up teams / solo builds. Players want random teams, players want to choose their teams, and players don't want to do teams at all!
Would it be alright to allow players to choose whether they want a team or not, as well as who they will build with, before the theme is chosen. This way, players who want a team can still have one while those who want to go solo can do that as well.
I would be for alternating each week between solo build and team build. Yeah, players will probably step out during solo nights, but I think we could probably still come up with a strong number of builders anyway. Plus, those who haven't been playing because of teams can be assured that they will be building solo.
With those two ideas out, I would also just like to say that we will be voting for the theme like we used to. It just makes more sense, haha.
Let's hear your thoughts!
I'm unsure where my stance currently stands on teams. Personally, I'd rather have alternating weeks with solo/teams. The teams should be completely random. This adds to the different aspect of it.
Solo: You gotta build an entire randomly themed build all on your own in 1 hour. Difficult, yet possible.
Team: You have to coordinate with a random teammate in order to fit the theme with your build. Possibly even more difficult than solo.
The difficulty is what makes the build-off fun. I think we should do alternating.
Note: Also, the gimmicks that Vixiy keeps blabbering over: we should use those once and see if people like it or not. (That's how we did teams in the first place.)
If you participate in the Saturady Night Build-Offs with us, please take a moment to give your opinion on a few matters:
Choosing the ground block for your plot pre-game: http://strawpoll.me/1812366 (http://strawpoll.me/1812366) (Yes = we choose, No = Grass only)
Choosing team vs solo builds: http://strawpoll.me/1812375 (http://strawpoll.me/1812375) (Yes = Alternate, No = We Vote)
The idea of a "Twist" thrown into a buildoff: http://strawpoll.me/1812386 (http://strawpoll.me/1812386) (Yes = Add twist every 10 games, No = No twist ever)
Play your way? You can choose to build alone or choose your partner to build with! http://strawpoll.me/1812394 (http://strawpoll.me/1812394) (Yes = Choose teams or choose to build alone, No = Vote and randomize like we always have)
Hey guys! Make sure to vote on those straw polls above, otherwise we cannot make informed decisions unto the future of the buildoff.
And speaking of the future, here's some upcoming features of the newest revamp of the buildoff. I won't tell you what they are, but you can imagine!

May I suggest increasing the time limit/size limit as well? Perhaps at least twice the size and time? I enjoying building and making cool creations, but the time limit and size limit doesn't seem to give me the feeling of satisfaction as when I've built a good build. I may not have realized that this may be more of a "reflex" buildoff than a "planning" buildoff. I like the mini buildoff idea, but feel it may be too mini.
For tomorrow's buildoff, according to the strawpoll, we shall now follow these rules:
Every week, we shall alternate solo to team.
You may pick you ground block before the buildoff starts.
There will be a twist every 10 builds.
Every buildoff that ends with the digit 0 will have a twist. That means this week's will have a twist.
Teams will be randomized.
To be determined: will we start with team or solo this week? We will find out Saturday.
Good luck out there! Hopefully you enjoy the revamped buildoff setup.
Hello everyone!
Our build-off has raised to level 2 with our 11th build!
It's time to vote for your favorite winning build of the first 10.

You guys should vote for the big ass cake by me and Kraw! Its one of my fave builds that I've done and I personally think it came out the best and is the least rushed and I like it the most. Go take a look!
It's great to see a good, consistent, high standard of builds in all entries. And no boxes. Some nice stuff for 1 hour's work.
Was there no set theme for the build-off?
What Krawkyz has set up is a "Vote for the best!" out of the first 10 buildoff winners. Each week is a different theme, and because we have no wcompleted our 11th build off we thought, or rather Krawkyz thought and we all agreed, it would be fun to vote for the best out of all the winners.
Its true though. This buildoff has been consistent and turns out some fantastic stuff for an hours time each week. And there were even times when players who don't get along get stuck building together and they actually get work done with a few laughs along the way, which is great to see.
Don't forget, Saturday is our build-off. Join us!

Build-off has been postponed until server technical issues have been resolved.
Unless I hear otherwise, the Build-off will commence at
8:00 PM EST on Tuesday, July 8th.
Since the build off in on a different day than we usually do is it okay to do singles tomorrow and teams on Saturday? Thus making the next Saturday another team week.
Depends on how many people show up
wont be there, got plans irl. hf.
Depending on the number we do get to come by, it may be best to just hold off until Saturday again.
It is unlikely we will be able to do it tonight due to technical issues again. If servers are up at 8:00 EST, then we will do the build-off (with at least 5 people). If not, it will be postponed again.
Build-off has been postponed until server technical issues have been resolved.
we know now WHERE the problems are coming from. We just need to fix it. Hopefully we'll have it fixed by the end of the week.
Buildoff has been scheduled for
Friday, July 11th. 8:00 PM EST
We are revoting and still doing teams?

We are revoting and still doing teams?
We are revoting but I don't know the situation on if we are doing teams or solo.
Hopefully, we have the creative server back up to par, what with the lag issues and whatnot. Myself, Krawkyz, and Butlerbandit did some significant tinkering to figure out the issue, and we think we have it resolved. (No promises, though)
Tonight I will be attempting a new voting system:
Step 1 - Nominations (vote for noms)
Step 2 - We will vote on the Nominations and whatever wins will be the theme
Step 3 - If resulted in a tie, will be randomly selected
This week`s Build off:
- There is going to a twist for the build off this week.
- It`s singles for the build off.
- We are going to try start the build-off at 9pm EST (so try to make it on time for the build off).
The buildoff has been postponed until tomorrow at 9pm EST. And the buildoff will be teams but we hope to see other builders..... And also be on time too..... :P
New thing about twist for the buildoff:
A twist occurs only on every fifth and tenth week for the buildoff
Due to circumstances regarding lack of turnout, the buildoff has been postponed until tomorrow at 7pm EST. The buildoff will be teams. Please note that the buildoff is 2 hours earlier than normal because it is a sunday night. Hope to see you all there!
Edit: That said, I just realized I won't be there. Anyway, despite the difficulty I know you will all have in coping with this, go on without me and have fun regardless!
I would like to dedicate this last weeks buildoff (October 4th) to bren4q, without whom, none of these would have been possible! :)
And here were the builds!

Jesus. What was the theme, "Builds That You Never Want To See Ever Again"?
They made me judge it Bren. Do you know how hard I just wanted to say no one wins?

That should've been the twist. "No one wins."
The one on the left was closest to capturing that true Classic feel. Although it would have been better if it had a rectangular base instead of a square base, so that it didn't go up into a point properly at the top.
To complete the experience there would also have to be the post-build ritual where the builder asks you several times to come look at it. And when you do, you can look forward to figuring out how to answer the inevitable question, "Is it good?"
It may also have benefited in the following ways:
-made of gold
-rainbow
-lava and water decorating it
-dirt!
-etc.

The buildoff is going to be postponed until tomorrow at 9pm..... be sure to make it!!!! It is going to be singles.... :)
The buildoff is postpone until tomorrow at 9pm EST... it is going to be singles...... I hope you guys can make it....!! :P
I hope there will be some or many people for tonight`s buildoff at 9pm EST......and it is going to be singles also. :)
Due to some conditions, the buildoff has been postponed to tomorrow at 8pm EST.... I hope to see you guys then. :) The buildoff will be still be singles but going to be at an earlier time so people can make it.
A reminder the buildoff is going to be teams tomorrow at 9pm EST. Hope to see you guys tomorrow. :)
Due to some conditions the build-off will be postponed until next Saturday.... I hope many insomniac members who will be participating in the build-off next Saturday.
There will two build-off on Saturday, Nov.29, 2014, (here is the schedule for next Saturday):
- The singles build-off will be at 5pm EST (build-off #36).
- The teams build-off will be at 8pm EST (build-off #35).
Future buildoffs have been postponed until such time as player availability increases (ie; during the holiday break). This includes the buildoff at 8pm EST...
The buildoff is now reinstated. As per the last build off, the time we begin will be:
Each Saturday at 4 PM EST.
If this is not a good time for majority of builders, it can be adjusted.
Also, there has been a call for 2 hours of buildoff time. This is being decided, but with past experiences of solo 2 hour buildoffs being somewhat dull, there may have to be a compromise.
We can probably work out a nice elegant system...and then proceed to NOT use it and simply argue for 20 minutes before the build-off actually starts- as per tradition.
Time has been changed to the previous time of 8 PM EST, due to lack of participation.
